Giles Travel - account booker 1 largeBusiness Travel Consultants provide a full travel solution to customers.  Acting as travel brokers, not simply order takers, they need to be able to multi-task and prioritise and be able to recognise all opportunities their clients.

Typically, Business Travel Consultant’s will:

  • Provide professional, knowledgeable service to broad range of clients via telephone and email
  • Ensure all enquiries receive a prompt, clear and concise response
  • Take full responsibility for enquiry from initial request to ticket issue and invoicing
  • Demonstrate fare knowledge expertise
  • Actively sell ancillary services
  • Booking hotels and car hire through GDS
  • Ferry and ancillary service bookings
  • Booking domestic and overseas rail

Aside from check-in staff and cabin crews, head office roles such as operations, route planning, marketing, finance and sales all have a requirement for business travel expertise. Relationships between TMC’s and Airlines are imperative to keeping the Business Travel Industry moving.

Hotel Managers usually have commercial accountability for budgeting and financial management, planning, organising and directing all hotel services, including front-of-house (reception, concierge, reservations), food and beverage operations, and housekeeping.

In larger hotels, managers often have a specific remit (guest services, accounting, marketing) and make up a general management team.

Hotel Management also offers the opportunity to travel with your work, as many hotel chains have operations across the globe and give their employees the chance to move to different locations.

RailwaysCareers within Rail extend far beyond train crew and staff.

Head office roles such as operations, business planning, sales, communications, web reservations, finance, HR and legal are integral to the running of railways.

job02Within the Car Hire sector there are rental companies plus brokers and intermediaries who market and sell car hire. These companies have product managers and sales teams who need to be commercially aware and have an understanding of the travel (and specifically business travel) marketplace.

Sales staff have to broach and encourage successful relationships with other business travel companies to help promote and cross sell their services, so a wider understanding of the business travel marketplace is a real advantage.

thefountain_058Meetings and Events roles range from managing board meetings to incentives across a broad range of corporate sectors. Event Manager’s roles typically require team leading, account management, operations and financial management of events.

Meeting and Event’s managers need to be knowledgeable about suppliers, venues and destinations, with the ability to conceive innovative and creative events with detailed budgets and proposals. They need to have a full understanding of the Business Travel industry to understand their clients and to ensure they are able to successfully coordinate and manager meetings and events.
